Rabindrabitan .. thats the name i have come up with of my pet subject/project i am working on, in my leisure time. Its been a year i am deeply into it. One would ask what is it.
Rabindrabitan is a research project on complete works of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Rabindrabitan is an anthology of Tagores work (includes Songs, Lyrics & Notations better known as “Rabindra sangeet “ , as well as Poems, Stories, Philosophical litrature). First thing that comes to mind is that there are many sites, softwares, zellions of books on this subject already available then why "Rabindrabitan". To answer that, well, none yes none quenched my thirst.. so I started my own. My professional background as architect software solutions for past one decade forced me to delve deep into it as i looked everywhere on this subject.. my assessment is that those who are deeply into Tagoreian Philosophy and also those who have come up something really good for the people about the genius of Tagore are not Technically savvy. and those who are into technology somehow missed the greatness and depth of of Rabindranath Tagore.
OK, lets move to Rabindrabitan, There are few great software/musical attempts on this subject. let me mention few of them
1. Gitabitan Archive [GA]
2. Gitabitan Live (Part 1 and Part 2) [GL]
3. Ekla Gitabitan by Swagatalakhmi Dasgupta.
4. Chirantan Rabindra Rachanabali. [CRR]
First three mainly concentrated on Tagores work on Songs and poetry, Rabindra Rachanabali is on the other hand more into his complete work more like Static Compilation.
I liked "Gitabitan Archive" immensely as it was close to the idea i was conceptualizing. and someone already come up with amazing research, really salute to its creator, Dr. P B Sarkar. I must say Rabindrabitan project is really inspired by this piece of gem.
Now about Rabindrabitan, Rabindrabitan is simply an extension of Tagore's Gitabitan, Gitabitan Archive, Gitabitan Live, Chirantan Rabindra Rachanabali and hundreds of sources put together, with more audio-visual and interactive content.
The Rabindra Sangeet section in Rabindrabitan has more than 5000+ songs(250+ vocalists) compared to 2800+ songs in Gitabitan Archive and 1400+ songs in Gitabitan Live. Songs section displays all his song creations as categorised by the poet himself along with Lyric, Notation and detailed information of all the songs as well displays list of renowned singers who sung the specific song - released in the public domain (LP records, Cassettes, CDs, DVDs, etc) from the (g)olden era to the present day. Moreover it has what i believe a better and user friendly interface. more research-work, facts and figures, plus more goodies such as video clips of Rabindra songs appeared in Tollywood movies in its entire history, usual stuff like Notations (Swaralipi) of most of the songs[all of swarabitan 1-64], Lyric, Song history, Song details etc. Also included the vocalists details(brief biography related to thier work in Rabindra Sangeet), Tagore's own voice, songs and poem recitation, rare collectibles and many more of Tagore era..
The songs and poems section are now complete.. will share a part of it soon.
Technical specification : Developed in MS .NET 3.5 WPF, SQL 2008, MP3(piracy protected).
some of the media resource are rare to very rare.. and due to copyright issues i think i wont be able to release/commercialize it in near future(for example the songs i have assorted are from all the Indian Music media groups that i know of.. Hindustan Records, HMV, Saregama, Music India, Sagarika, POLYDOR, EMI, Bhavna, T-Series, Rhyme, Virgin, Venus, Asha, Biswas, Magna Sound, Gathani, etc..).
